Although the discovery date of Göbeklitepe, which caused a new page to be opened in history and necessitated the change of some information accepted for hundreds of years, goes back to 1963, the first excavations started in 1995. There are multiple temples in this place, which is not used as a settlement area and only serves religious purposes. In this respect, it is considered not only the oldest but also the largest center of worship in the world. The monumental structures that bring to mind that this entire region was a center of faith and pilgrimage in the Neolithic Age, and although 6 of them have been unearthed to date, the total number of them is 20, as determined by geomagnetic measurements, are similar to each other. The oldest pictures carved into stone in the Neolithic Age on T-shaped columns that are up to 6 meters tall, and some of which are three-dimensional, depictions of animals also show the artistic talent of our ancestors. Prof. Dr. Klaus Schmidt, who has been conducting excavations here for 20 years, states with certainty that these T-shaped columns, some of which also show hands and fingers, represent human figures.

GÖBEKLİTEPEART - 2022
Although Göbeklitepe has provided much new information, unsolved questions about the findings continue to puzzle scientists. Who built these temples, how the columns weighing up to 60 tons were transported and erected here, why they were buried by covering them with tons of soil and stone, and what exactly the purpose of the temples are mysteries waiting to be answered and will probably require years of research. The only thing that is certain is that all this research will continue to contribute to human history and completely change what has been written so far… Source: General Directorate of Promotion Türkiye
